SITE HANDING OVER- MBAGATHI COUNTY HOSPITAL AND SAFARICOM MPESA FOUNDATION

Today, the Mbagathi County Referral Hospital team conducted the project inception meeting/project handing over of the proposed maternity and NBU wing being sponsored by the Safaricom Mpesa Foundation at Mbagathi County Hospital.

In attendance was the beneficiary team led by the CEO Dr. Alex Irungu, Project management team led by QS Angela Ngere and the contractor led by Eng Maina

The hospital team officially handed over the site to the contractor.

This highly specialized project will significantly improve the healthcare service delivery across Nairobi City County in line with H.E Gov Sakaja’s pillar of healthcare in his manifesto.

UNITED STATES DELEGATION ON KENYA – US HEALTH COOPERATION FRAMEWORK VISIT

Mbagathi County Referral Hospital today hosted a technical team from the USA on a mission to advance the implementation of Kenya–United States Health Cooperation Framework signed in December 2025. This follows previous high-level delegations of President Trump working party and the US senate , hosted by the Hospital CEO Dr Alex Irungu, PhD in July and September respectively last year,on discussions pertaining change of the US Government Health funding policy from USAID to State Department and Governments of respective beneficiaries.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral health collaboration in areas such as disease prevention and response, health systems strengthening, and other shared healthcare priorities under the framework.

The U.S. delegation was led by Mr. Brandon Ramsay, Professional Staff Member, U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, and included Ms. Allison Cantrell, Dr. Sally Okutoyi from the U.S. Department of State – Office of Foreign Assistance, Ms. Leah Hasselback from the U.S. Embassy Nairobi, alongside senior Ministry of Health technical officials.

The delegation was hosted by Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Ericah Koima, Hospital C.H.A.O Agnes Mwageroki, and other members of staff.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH HIGH LEVEL DELEGATION VISIT

Mbagathi Hospital today hosted a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Health led by the PS Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, The Vice President of the International Development Association (IDA) and a delegation of Members of Parliament from the French Government.

The visit aimed at exploring opportunities for healthcare investment and sharing best practices in strengthening public health systems, with a key focus on Maternal and Child Health services.

The delegation was received by the Nairobi County CECM for Health Suzanne Silantoi, Mbagathi Hospital Board Chairman Dr. Githinji Gitahi, and the hospital management team and staff led by the CEO, Dr. Alex Irungu.

UNITAD DELEGATION VISIT TO NICU AND NBU

Mbagathi Hospital had the privilege of hosting a delegation from UNITAID and partners during a visit to our NICU and NBU departments.

The team engaged with our healthcare workers to better understand neonatal care delivery, oxygen therapy systems, equipment availability, and the overall patient care pathway.

The delegation also presented a special gift from the French Parliament to Mbagathi Hospital, a gesture symbolizing continued partnership and support towards strengthening healthcare services

We appreciate their commitment towards supporting affordable life-saving innovations and strengthening neonatal healthcare in low- and middle-income countries.

They were hosted by Dep.Med Sup Dr.Beatrice Mwangi and NBU HOD Dr. Christine Manyasi.
