MBAGATHI PERFORMS FIRST VENTRICULO-PERITONEAL STUNT.
Freddy Christopher, 27 yrs, presented to Mbagathi hospital desperate for a solution- he had lost his eye sight, balance, had bladder and bowel incontinence, and felt dejected.
8 months ago, Mr. Freddy was diagnosed with a high grade brain tumor, that caused him intense headaches. He underwent chemotherapy and multiple cycles of radiotherapy, but the effects of the tumor caused him untold suffering and anguish. He had progressively increasing pressure in the brain .
The Mbagathi Hospital neurosurgeon, Dr Tom Mboya led a dedicated clinical team, with the support of the administration, conducted the first ever ventriculo- peritoneal shunt. This delicate, life saving procedure involved diverting cerebrospinal fluid from the brain to the abdomen to relieve pressure in the brain and restore brain function.
Thankfully, the procedure was a success, and Mr. Freddy’s life improved remarkably post surgery.
